The Best Obsidian Games in 2020 and Beyond

Obsidian Entertainment have had a hell of a year with a number of high-profile game announcements coupled with soaring stock prices attracting attention from the tech community at large.  It seems they may be well on their way to becoming a global gaming powerhouse

Here are some of the most hotly anticipated titles of the moment.

Avowed is a Skyrim-esque style open world first person RPG which was announced in July 2020 with an unknown release day.

Though sure to have stiff competition from the Elder Scrolls series, with Obsidian’s track record of critically acclaimed RPG’s, its hard not to take Avowed seriously as a potential gem in the current RPG landscape.

What We Know So Far

  • Open world
  • First person
  • Spells and magic
  • Dragons

Grounded is a first person survival horror game which offers players the chance to be shrunk and attacked by spiders. Yes, you heard that right – it’s not quite the style of game Obsidian are known for, but its also a clear indicator they are branching out into new areas.

Unannounced Title

Obsidian are also working on a new untitled game which has drawn speculation from fans as to what they could be unveiling.

Despite a busy year including the announcement of both Avowed and grounded Grounded, it seems Obsidian may still have more in store for fans.

The project will be spear-headed by veteran studio lead Josh Sawyer who is credited with the game design for some of the most highly acclaimed RPG’s ever made, including the Icewind Dale series, Neverwinter Nights and Pillars of Eternity.  Unfortunately, that’s about all we know so far.

Based on previous comments from Josh Sawyer the title is unlikely to be Pillars of Eternity 3 due to poor sales of Pillars of Eternity 2, despite critical acclaim.
