New Story and Gameplay Details Made Available

Nintendo has unveiled more details about the single-player mode and storyline for Kid Icarus: Uprising, reboot of the classic franchise, which is due to hit the 3DS on 23 March in Europe and North America.

The story begins with the return of the Queen of the Underworld, Medusa, and her army, thus setting the game up as a potential sequel. Pit must once again come to the aid of the human race, using the powers bestowed upon him by Palutena, the goddess of light, to fight off the invading forces of darkness.

Kid Icarus: Uprising incorporates a new gameplay system, which allows players to customise their play experience as they work their way through the game. On a scale of 0.0 to 9.0, players can set their desired intensity for each individual game chapter. Upping the intensity will make enemies more aggressive and stronger, but will allow players to earn more hearts and powerful weaponry should they succeed in defeating them.

The standard intensity is set at 2.0 and players will be able to adjust this in 0.1 increments. In order to increase the Intensity, players must bet by placing an increasing number of Hearts into the Fiend’s Cauldron. If the player is defeated during the Chapter, some Hearts will be lost and the Intensity will automatically be lowered.

Weapons in Kid Icarus: Uprising

Weapons

There is a wide variety of collectible weapons. In fact, there are nine different categories of weapons, ranging from Divine Bows to Shot Claws. Apparently, there’s a certain type of weapon for everyone. We like the sound of the “Palms of Destruction”. A full list of the game’s weapons can be found here.

Vehicles

One of the most interesting additions to the franchise is the use of vehicles. Pit will have access to special vehicles throughout his adventure, such as the Exo Tank. Pit can use the tank’s powerful drift ability to defeat enemies with the tank’s ramming horn.

Powers

Pit will have access to a wide variety of powers to aid his quest against Medusa and the Underworld Army. When playing Land Battle mode in either Solo or Together play, players will be able to combine and customise Pit’s abilities before heading into battle. You can put together a loadout that suits your style of combat – but bear in mind that there are only so many powers you can bring into battle at the same time.

Multiplayer

As already confirmed by Nintendo, Kid Icarus: Uprising will feature both local and online multiplayer modes. Playing together allows you to acquire new weapons, which in turn can be used in the solo adventure or to upgrade your current weapon for the next multiplayer battle. Two game types have been confirmed:

Light vs. Dark:  In this mode, a 3-on-3 team battle is fought. Whenever a team member is defeated, their “Team Life Gauge” decreases according to the value of the weapon this player was using. The player that’s defeated when the Team Life Gauge gets entirely depleted will turn into a powerful Angel. The team that manages to defeat the other team’s Angel wins the battle!

Free-for-All: Up to six players battle it out for the top score.

Kid Icarus: Uprising will release 23 March in both Europe and North America. For more information about the game, visit the official Kid Icarus: Uprising UK webpage.
