Caterpillars, Balloons and Bloobs – Every Kid’s Dream!
This week’s download line-up from Nintendo is one for the kids, mainly because The Very Hungry Caterpillar, the loveable bug from your childhood days, is making his way onto WiiWare. Designed with young children’s learning in mind, this game should prove fun for all the family.
Otherwise, 3DS and DSi owners can also brush up on their maths skills with another title from Tivola, Successfully Learning Mathematics Year 3.
And finally, for those that have already conquered their educational needs, Balloon Kid and Double Bloob should keep 3DS owners’ game cravings satisfied until next week.
Balloon Kid (3DS, €3.00/£2.70, Nintendo)
Take to the skies on a journey through a land of danger, with only balloons to keep you afloat (and safe for that matter). The classic Game Boy title tells the story of Alice, who must float through eight perilous stages in order to save her brother. A game of careful navigation, this is certainly one for gamers of all ages.
Double Bloob (Bloober Team, 3DS/DSi, €5.00/£4.50/500 Nintendo DSi Points, Bloober Team)
In Double Bloob, it is up to you to help two siblings, Aen and Niua, save the planet from an invasion of Bloobs. Using Doctor Maybe’s inventions (a somewhat troubling name considering), it is up to you to shoot hordes of Bloobs out of the sky. There’s a large variety of power-ups and weapons, not to mention 48 levels, to keep things interesting throughout.
Successfully Learning Mathematics Year 3 (3DS/DSi, €5.00/£4.50/500 Nintendo DSi Points, Tivola)
With the help of Freddy the Vampire (inspired by the Count from the Muppets, perhaps?), you must solve a number of mathematical exercises. Designed to make maths fun for the little ones.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar’s ABCs (Wii, 800 Wii Points, CYBIRD)
This game is based on the children’s book The Very Hungry Caterpillar and helps young players learn the alphabet by associating words and pictures with each letter. Promising easy to understand quizzes and drawing and colouring exercises, young children will most certainly get a kick out of learning with the infamous caterpillar.
Other Download Activity
On Nintendo Video this week, 3DS owners will be able to view the latest instalment of Circus 3D, as well as 3D Machine, which tells the story of a brilliant inventor who finally makes a breakthrough creating a wonderful invention. Unfortunately, things don’t go as expected in the long run…
Stay tuned to Bits ‘n’ Bytes Gaming for next week’s EU downloads list.
